Geilenkirchen Campaign Day 1: 3/334th Attack on Prummern.

The second battle of the campaign sees another German success as the American attack stalls short of its objective - Prummern.

A company of Sherman tanks advance towards Prummern supported by K Coy of the 3/334th. The initial plan was for a probe towards the objective - in the heat of battle it quickly developed into an attempt to take the town.

An 88 dug-in on the high ground behind Prummern engages the Shermans.

More tanks and infantry join the attack. A stonk of 12.0cm mortars lands on the advancing infantry.

A Sherman brews up hit by the Pak 40.

Another Sherman (or is it the same one?) bites the dust.

The view from the German positions. The Pak 40 is pinned. Mortar fire harasses the advancing Yanks.

The artillery template goes down on a nice clumped target.

In the background a third wave moves forward.

Lots of tanks - including a Firefly of the Sherwood Rangers - but where are the infantry?

The view from the American side. A panzerfaust team hiding in the damaged building is about to take on the lead Sherman.

More mayhem - mortar bombs and 10.5cm shells take their toll.

Too many tanks - too few infantry.

The pinned Pak 40 (it never managed to rally) about to be over-run by a Sherman.

Another view of the Pak 40's demise.

And yet another view of much the same thing - it was to prove the only real Yank success of the battle.

The Pak 40's crew await their fate.
