Geilenkirchen Campaign Day 1 PM: The fighting continues around Prummern and Gut Loherhof.

Infantry from 2nd battalion 334th supported by Churchills from 42nd Assault Regiment begin to break through the German defenses. The AVRE's Petard mortar pins the defenders of the bunker before the infantry go in. A company of StuG IIIs is rushed forward to plug the gap.

Meanwhile over on the right the German defenders are being overrun. Two bunkers are captured by close assault. Wolverines move forward in support and with the defenders of Prummern pinned and suppressed combat engineers begin their assault on the town. In the background another Sherman is taken out by the 88 dug in on the high ground behind Prummern.

Another view of the fighting around Prummern - this time from behind the advancing Americans and British. In the foreground a platoon from 1st Battalion stands on top of a capture bunker!

Close up of the fighting for Prummern. 171st Combat Engineers moving FAST (risky unless the enemy are pinned or suppressed) storm the town.

An overview of the battlefield as night falls. In the foreground lies the town of Suggerath - the rather ambitious first day objective of the 334th. On the right the 2nd Battalion has punctured the first line of German defenses. The counterattack by the StuGs was broken up by accurate artillery fire and 334th's 57mm a/tank gun platoon. On the left Prummern remains in German hands but the Yanks have a foothold.
